Inspiring visitors to care.
The town of Moab sits in the middle of a vast region that includes two national parks, a national forest, a major state park, and so much more. Millions of visitors come to Moab to enjoy its red rock beauty and play on the desert trails.
But high visitation unfortunately also means there are plenty of instances of people leaving trash behind, carving their names into rocks, mis-using the trails and ruining the beautiful landscape that so many come to enjoy. Many of these people have no idea how delicate and fragile the ecosystem is. Posted signs are plentiful, but signs can’t teach respect or inspire people to care. This was the problem that we hoped to address.
In order to inspire conservation, people need to understand what is actually at risk. They need to be shown the living ecosystems around them. But it wasn’t enough to just tell them about nature, we needed our viewers to engage in a relationship with it.
When we met Karen, the ranger in this video, we knew exactly what to do. Together, we went into the desert where she shared about a surprising, vulnerable part of the desert…microscopic environments. We were able to capture Karen’s infectious passion for the ecosystem and illustrate it with stunning visuals to create in viewers an emotional connection to the environment around them.
Since the short film was released it has been viewed over 100K times online and and the response to it has been enormously favorable.

It was illuminating and educating, but also tied into the need to care for the land. First you learn about it, then you care about it, and now you want to protect it.
