Mini-Series with a Major Impact.

Episode #2 of “5 Tips for Your Moab Adventure” discusses in the importance of staying on designated trails with a positive informative approach, encouraging Moab visitors to protect the landscape that has drawn them here.

This video series is designed to post a new episode every week for five weeks, then have a permanent place on a variety of user-group-related websites.

This video was a joint agency project with the Bureau of Land Management, Sand Flats Recreation Area, and the Moab Area Travel Council.

Fleeting life captured on film.

Filming the story of the fairy shrimp was particularly challenging – everything about their story is fleeting and random in occurrence. Being on location with specialized camera equipment at just the right time took research and dedication to the project.

The project was funded by Southern Nevada Conservancy, a non-profit organization that supports the Bureau of Land Management in their endeavor to inspire and educate visitors to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

Telling Human Stories. Authentically.

Towards that goal, we produced a series of videos to raise awareness about the availability of accessible outdoor adventures for individuals with disabilities.

How did we do it? First, for realism we film and edit in 4K resolution, and use gimbals to convey action and motion. For mobility, we use a two-man team to plan, direct and film the videos. Our experienced film crew is agile and can mesh easily with the logistics of our participants’ support teams.

From a social media sharing strategy, Moab’s three biggest outdoor user groups are mountain biking, jeeping and rafting – so sharing these very visual experiences through the eyes of a disabled person makes a strong emotional connection.

But it’s the accessibility stories that really take these videos to another level because there’s human interest and emotion and inspiration in those stories. Its a positive message in an age of negativity.

Working with our partners like National Ability Center we chose participants who were willing to go on a trip specifically to be filmed and were willing to tell their story on camera.

Conservation Inspired by Beauty.

The biggest problem is visitors simply don’t know how fragile the desert landscape really is. A lot of the most damaging behaviors are easy to correct – stay on trail, pick up your trash, don’t carve your name into a rock.

For this video we set out to show how beautiful and special hiking in Moab really is, and then simply explain the simple etiquette to leave the landscape as beautiful as you found it for the next visitor after you.

From Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, to Dead Horse Point and Sand Flats Recreation Area, here’s everything you’ll want to know about hiking trails in this rugged and beautiful landscape.

Small Stories Make Big Impacts.

With only 5,000 residents but millions of visitors, sustainability is a more important issue for Moab than you might imagine. Moab is in a desert valley with limited water, surrounded by solid rock cliffs and public lands on all sides. The town is hemmed in.

The millions of visitors impact everything – from fresh water usage to the volume of trash, from fresh food for restaurants to sewage treatment from thousands of hotel rooms.

But for such a small community, Moab’s residents and local government are making big efforts to make Moab more sustainable. From small local businesses running 100% on solar power, to a high-tech sewage treatment plant that cut water use from 2,000,000 gallons per month to 30,000 gallons per month, Moab has been the little community leading the way.

Keeping tourists safe all year.

In Moab’s vast landscape – which includes Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, Dead Horse Point, the Colorado River, Hells Revenge and the Slickrock Bike Trail just to name a few – dedicated teams of professionals work together to rescue injured, dehydrated and lost visitors using an amazing array of specialty equipment, including off-road vehicles, rolling litters, bicycles, UTVs, boats and helicopters.

Over 30 people from multiple agencies participated in the 48 hour filming, which took place on what turned out to be two of the busiest call days of the year for the search and rescue teams. The filming involved staff and volunteers from several agencies and community residents, including Grand County Search and Rescue, Grand County EMS, Grand County Sheriff’s Office, Classic Air Medical, the National Park Service, Bureau of Land Managment and the Swiftwater Safety Institute.

Capturing history while it’s young.

This trailer was created to promote the September, 2019 world premiere of 50 Years of Slickrock at Star Hall in Moab.

Over 30 people were interviewed to tell the first-hand evolutionary story of the trail and it’s users, including the challenges it has faced through the decades.

Slickrock Bike Trail is located in Sand Flats Recreation Area and managed through a partnership of Grand County and the Bureau of Land Management.

Music that makes a difference.

For the music video, we filmed David and his bandmates in several iconic Moab landscapes, adding emotion and inspiration to the song’s fun lyrics to visually capture the subject of the song. Joining David on camera are local artists Eric Jones on mandolin and Glenn Sherrill on bass.

David, Eric and Glenn perform regularly and venues in and around Moab.

Time to spread the word.

Filming, editing, scoring, and revisions were finally done and a premiere had been scheduled. Now…it was time to spread the word.

To help them get the word out about their new film and the premiere event, we created this social media trailer for them and their partners to post in anticipation of the film. This short trailer helped announce the new film to thousands via local media and created interest and support for SNC and the conservation area with local visitors.

The premiere was a massive success and now the film is playing every half-hour in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area visitor center just outside Las Vegas.
